WISDOM

When I first left home at 19 I travelled to Western Australia. When I arrived in Perth I wanted to find some kind of spiritual refuge, a place to gain some insight and understanding about life and who I am and what life is about.

At that time very little was available in the way of books events/talks - "the alternative" in regard to spirituality and so many other things, was only just starting, and in many ways, life felt like a spiritual wasteland.

The refuge I did find was at the Theosophical Book Shop. A very small shop in a beautiful old building at 1 Museum street in Perth. After my week at work, every Saturday morning that shop became my regular haven and refuge. Walking through the doors of that shop I was always met by the same soft fragrant incense that somehow instantly transported me into my heart. I felt at peace and silent. I could sense the immense wisdom those book shelves held. It gave me a sense of spiritual optimism and hope. This is where I first discovered J. Krishnamurti and his book - The first and last freedom.

That was about 40 years ago, and the one thing I remember from that shop is a quote in a little book that I think was called quotes of N.Sri Ram.

The truth is, we are ultimately all knowing and wisdom itself, but prematurely embracing that, can lead to living in self deception and arrogance, along with all the suffering that comes with it (personal experience)

A long story just to share with you this very short quote -

"Distinguish between your limited wisdom and your unlimited ignorance,
from this recognition humbleness and true wisdom is born" - N.Sri Ram
